Liturgy, Faith Development, and  Sacraments

Mass Schedule
Saturdays at 6:00 p.m., Sundays at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
During WMU’s fall and winter semesters,
we extend that schedule by adding the 5:30 and 9:15 Sunday night Masses.
Daily Mass is celebrated at 5:15 in our chapel on the lower level of St. Tom’s.

Liturgical Ministers -- Students are invited and encouraged to participate at our weekend Masses as Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Mass Coordinators, and Music Ministers. Orientation sessions for liturgical ministers are offered every September and January.

Music ministry is open to musicians and to all who like to sing and make music for the Lord. Because we are a singing parish, we have few solos, and lots of congregational participation.  We also welcome instrument players. We have music for guitars, and C and B flat instruments, as well as a full drum set for percussion players.  If you would like to be part of the Music Ministry group, please come one full hour before the Mass you plan to attend. That's when we learn/review the music and prepare for liturgy.  You don’t have to read music or be a trained musician, but a good singing voice is pretty important when you are part of the group leading the congregation in song.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation or Penance is offered within a communal celebration during the Advent and Lenten seasons. Individual reconciliation times may be scheduled by calling the parish office to set an appointment with Father Ken.

Marriage preparation begins with an introductory meeting to explain the various components of preparation for marriage. Those preparing to marry should call the parish office as soon as possible to start their process, at least six months before the wedding. The parish assists students who will marry at St. Tom’s or are preparing to be married in another city or church.

Baptism of infants is celebrated about every 5-6 weeks. A baptism class for parents and sponsors is required. Baptisms are usually celebrated after the Saturday evening Mass. Please call the parish office to register for a baptism.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in the fall and the spring for college students and adults who have celebrated Baptism and Eucharist. Those seeking Confirmation are prepared for the sacrament through our program called Understanding the Catholic Faith, offered in the fall at St. Tom’s.

Understanding the Catholic Faith, offered each fall, is a series designed for college-age students and young adults who have not yet been confirmed, but have already been baptized, received Eucharist, and have been raised in the Catholic Church. It is also helpful for people preparing for a mixed-religion marriage, and for Catholics seeking to update their knowledge of the Catholic faith.

RCIA, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, accompanies people into the Catholic Church through a process of spiritual formation, which includes catechesis, faith sharing, shared prayer, and mission activity. The process is marked by several liturgical celebrations with the parish community. The goal of this faith journey is to bring about a conversion in the life of the person and the community. The steps include a period of inquiry, a time of Christian formation, Lenten spiritual preparation for the Easter sacraments, and a time of continued support and follow-up after Easter. Each individual is supported by a sponsor who belongs to the parish.
